I remember my parents taking me here often as child. At that time the store had a display of 5 of the newest patterns that the designers were working on. The public was encouraged to vote for their favorite pattern by stuffing a paper ballot into a voting box. The popularity of the pattern helped the company bring new designs to the marketplace. I thought that was the coolest thing!
